Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Remove" for the correct procedure.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Use a suitable tooling in order to support the engine.
Install a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (7). Support the weight of the housing. The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).
Remove bolts (1), bolts (4), bolts (5), and the nuts and bolts (9) from flywheel housing (7).
Carefully remove flywheel housing (7) from back plate (2). Use a suitable lifting device to remove the flywheel housing.
Remove bolts (8) that retain back plate (2) to the cylinder block.
Remove back plate (2) from the cylinder block.
If necessary, remove dowel (3) and dowel (6) from the cylinder block. Do not remove the dowels unless the dowels are damaged. Installation Procedure

Ensure that the gasket surfaces of back plate (2), flywheel housing (7), and cylinder block (10) are clean and free from damage. Inspect the crankshaft rear seal for leaks. If necessary, replace the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Inspect dowel (3) and dowel (6) for damage. If the dowels are damaged, replace the dowels.
Apply a continuous bead of Tooling (A) to the rear face of cylinder block (10) in Positions (X).
Install back plate (2) to cylinder block (10).
Install bolts (8) that retain back plate (2) to cylinder block (10).
Tighten bolts (8) to a torque of 25 N m (221 lb in).
Attach a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (7). The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 30 kg (66 lb). Install the flywheel housing to the back plate.
Carefully install flywheel housing (7) to back plate (2).
Install bolts (1), bolts (4), bolts (5), and nuts and bolts (9) that retain flywheel housing (7).
Remove the lifting device from flywheel housing (7).
Tighten bolts (1), bolts (4), bolts (5), and nuts and bolts (9) to a torque of 50 N m (36 lb ft). End By:
Install the flywheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Flywheel - Install" for the correct procedure.
