The rotor assembly can be hot enough to cause serious burns, let the rotor assembly drum cool before removing bits.
1. Open the rotor service door to access the rotor bits.
The rotating rotor assembly can cause death or injury. Shut the engine OFF, remove the key, and tag the engine control before working on or near the rotor assembly. Use extreme caution while working anywhere near the rotor.
A hydraulic or air operated hammer and punch for the hammer are supplied with each machine.2. Connect the hammer to the air system quick connect.3. Insert the tip of the punch into the opening in the bit holder.4. Use the hammer to drive the bit out. The following steps are for the installation of the rotor bits.a. Position new bit (1) into the holder.b. Drive the bit into place with a hammer. Be sure the keeper spring is engaged with the holder. A manual bit puller is also supplied with each machine. To remove a bit, hook the puller on the shoulder of the bit and strike the puller sharply with a hammer.
Be sure all personnel are clear of the rotor before engaging the auxiliary rotor drive motor. Contact with the moving rotor can cause serious injury or death.
Connect the auxiliary rotor drive motor to the rotor sheave (lower) and rotate the rotor assembly to change the bits.
