Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Hand tighten the NPT pipe nipple. Do not use tools.
Remove the tank drain plug. Open the drain valve by installing a 1 inch NPT pipe nipple, 88 mm (3.50 inch) long, in the bottom of the tank, to open the internal drain valve and drain the oil. Drain the oil into a suitable container.
Remove bolts (2) from the hydraulic tank cover and remove the cover.
Clean the debris from the bottom of the tank.

Remove the retaining nuts from bolts (3). Remove the cover located at the bottom of hoist return screen (4). Remove and clean or discard the screen.
Install new or clean screen (4), the screen cover and cover retaining nuts.
Clean the hydraulic tank cover in clean, nonflammable solvent. Inspect the cover gasket. If the gasket is damaged, use a new gasket.

Remove four bolts (5) that hold suction pipes (6) and (7) to the hydraulic tank. Remove the suction pipe, seal and screen assemblies.
Remove the suction screens from the pipes.
Wash the screens in clean, nonflammable solvent.
Inspect the suction pipe seals. Replace if damaged.
Inspect the suction screens in the pipe assemblies.
Install the suction pipe, screen and seal assemblies in the hydraulic tank. Secure the pipes to the hydraulic tank with bolts (5) .
Install the tank cover and bolts.
Fill the hydraulic tank.Reference: For information on lubricants and refill capacities, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the machine that is being serviced.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Check for leaks.

With the oil cold, check the oil level in sight gauge (8). For the AD45 truck check the oil level with the body fully lowered. For the AE40 Series ll truck check the oil level with the ejector plate fully retracted and the tailgate fully raised.
Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark in the sight gauge.
Remove filler cap (9) and add oil if necessary.
