Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) Bleed plug for the service brake

(4) Bleed plug for the parking and secondary brake Perform the following procedure for each brake. Note: If the brake assembly is equipped with only one set of bleed plugs, it is necessary to remove the tires.
Remove plug (1) and plug (3) and install tooling into ports.
Check the tandem oil level. Make sure that the tandem housing is full of oil through the procedure.
Start the engine and allow the oil pressure to increase to the cut-out pressure. Stop the engine.

(5) Service brake pedal
The operator must depress brake pedal (5) slowly. Hold the brake pedal down until brake oil flows out of the brake purging screw.
The hydraulic oil in the brake system will flow out of the brake purging screw. Collect the oil in a container. Look for air bubbles in the oil. Allow the oil to flow into the container until no air is visible in the oil.
When no air bubbles are present in the oil, remove the tooling and tighten plug (1) and plug (3).
Complete this procedure for each service brake. Only perform this procedure on one brake at a time. Note: Perform the procedure again, if the service brakes are soft.
