Schematic of the Solenoid Valve (Parking Brake)This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the current of the solenoid as being below normal. There is an open circuit.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The circuit of the solenoid is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.
The service brake pedal switch has failed.System Response:When this diagnostic code occurs, the action lamp and the action alarm are ON. The diagnostic code will cause the transmission to shift to NEUTRAL until the problem is corrected. Note: Ensure that CID 0681 FMI 05 is on hold and that the diagnostic indicator is illuminated. The nominal coil resistance at room temperature is 8.15 .6 ohms.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code is corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Disconnect the solenoid with the diagnostic code from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire A958-WH) to contact 2 (wire F931-PK).
Observe the status of the diagnostic indicator. The diagnostic indicator will be illuminated or the diagnostic indicator will NOT be illuminated.Expected Result:The diagnostic indicator blinks on and off as the jumper wire is installed and removed. Results:
YES - The circuit is correct. Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this test step "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid.STOP
NO - The diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the diagnostic code. Proceed to test step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SOLENOID CIRCUIT OF THE PARKING BRAKE .
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire A958-WH) to contact 2 (wire F931-PK).
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from signal contact J2-44 (wire A958-WH) to contact J2-36 (wire H807-YL) (On/Off return wire). Make a note of the resistance measurement.
Depress the service brake pedal switch and repeat the measurements at signal contact J2-44 (wire A958-WH) to contact J2-36 (wire H807-YL) (On/Off return wire). Make a note of the resistance measurement.Expected Result:The resistance that is measured is less than 5.0 ohms before the switch is depressed. The resistance that is measured is greater than 5000 ohms after the switch is depressed.Results:
OK - The resistance that is measured is less than 5.0 ohms before the switch is depressed. The resistance that is measured is greater than 5000 ohms after the switch is depressed. The solenoid circuit is correct. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open in the solenoid circuit.Repair: Verify that the switch functions properly. If the switch does not function
