Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolt (1) and the washer. Remove bolts (2) and the washers. Remove oil pump suction bell (3) from the engine oil pump. Remove the gasket that is located between the oil pump suction bell and the engine oil pump.

Remove bolts (5), engine oil pan plate (4) and the gasket from the cylinder block.Installation Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Inspect the engine oil pan plate gasket for damage. If the gasket is damaged use a new part for replacement.

Install two 3/8 - 16 NC guide pins in the cylinder block. Put the gasket and engine oil pan plate (4) in position. Install bolts (5) and remove the guide pins from the cylinder block.

Install the gasket that is located between the oil pump suction bell and the engine oil pump. Put suction bell (3) in position and install the washers and bolts (2) that fasten the suction bell to the engine oil pump. Install the washer and bolt (1) that holds the suction bell in position.End By: Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
