Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the wheel chocks. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Wheel Chock (Front and Rear) - Remove and Install".
Install the truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area.
In order to prevent possible personal injury, release the air pressure from the air tank before disconnecting any components of the air system.
Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal components.
Release the pressure in the air system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Tanks (Brake) - Purge".

Disconnect two hose assemblies (1) and (2) from check valve (4). Remove check valve (4) from air/hydraulic cylinder (3) .Installation Procedure
Verify that all of the components are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation. Check all of the components for wear. Replace the components, if necessary.

Position check valve (4) to air/hydraulic cylinder (3), as shown. Install check valve (4) to air/hydraulic cylinder (3), as shown. Connect two hose assemblies (1) and (2) to check valve (4) .
Charge the air pressure in the air tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Starting with an External Air Supply" for the correct procedure.
Personal injury or death can result from air in the oil for the brake hydraulic system.Air in the system can prevent complete brake application and it is possible that the wheels on the machine can not be stopped.Air must not be in the oil for the brake hydraulic system to function properly.
Purge the air from the hydraulic oil in the brake hydraulic system. Refer to Air System and Brakes, Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Brake System Air - Purge" for the correct procedure.End By:
