Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the valve mechanism cover. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual, "Valve Mechanisim Cover - Remove and Install". Note: Do not disassemble the variable valve actuator after the component has been removed. Any attempt to disassemble the variable valve actuator will void the warranty of the component.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Disconnect harness assembly (4). Disconnect harness assembly (5).
Remove bolt (2). Remove four nuts (3) and two nuts (6).
Remove variable valve actuator (1).

Remove support (11) and stud (10).
Remove two studs (9) and three studs (7).
Remove rocker arm (8).
