Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.Note: The Illustrations that are shown in the following Steps demonstrate the correct installation procedure for the sensor assembly, and these Illustrations may not represent the exact cylinder that is on your machine.Note: For pistons that are retained with a bolt, refer to the following instructions for the installation of the magnet.

Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of carrier (18) and install carrier (18) into bolt (19). Tighten carrier (18) to a torque of 35 5 N m (26 4 lb ft).
Install magnet (17) into carrier (18) .
Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of retainer (16) and install retainer (16) into carrier (18). Tighten retainer (16) to a torque of 35 5 N m (26 4 lb ft).Note: For pistons that are retained with a nut, refer to the following instructions for the installation of the magnet.

Apply Tooling (H) to carrier (14) and install carrier (14) into rod (15). Tighten carrier (14) to a torque of 90 20 N m (66 15 lb ft).
Install magnet (13) into carrier (14) .
Apply Tooling (H) to retainer (12) and install retainer (12) into carrier (14). Tighten retainer (12) to a torque of 35 5 N m (26 4 lb ft).

Lubricate backup ring (10) and O-ring seal (11) with the lubricant that is being sealed. Install backup ring (10) and O-ring seal (11) onto sensor assembly (9) .Note: Install backup ring (10) so that the split in backup ring (10) is in alignment with the slotted notch on the side of sensor assembly (9) .

Assemble Tooling (J), as shown. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS0935.
Install sensor assembly (9) into Tooling (J) .
Slide Tooling (L) over sensor assembly (9) until Tooling (L) has cleared the dimple in the side of sensor assembly (9), as shown.Note: If Tooling (L) is installed to the point which exposes the backup ring or the O-ring seal on sensor assembly (9), continue pulling sensor assembly (9) through Tooling (L) and repeat Steps 9 and 10. This will help prevent cutting the O-ring seal with Tooling (L) .
Thread the wires through the wire passage and align the slot in sensor assembly (9) with the pin in sensor housing (7) .
Use Tooling (J) to tap sensor assembly (9) into the counterbore until sensor (9) rests against the face of the counterbore in sensor housing (7) .

Apply Tooling (M) to setscrew (8) and install setscrew (8). Tighten setscrew (8) to a torque of 25 6 N m (18 4 lb ft).

Install the O-ring seal to the face of sensor housing (7). Install sensor housing

This will help prevent cutting the O-ring seal with Tooling (L) .
