Pressurized system: Hot coolant can cause serious burn. To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Topping off or mixing Cat ELC with other products that do not meet Caterpillar EC-1 specifications reduces the effectiveness of the coolant, shortens coolant service life, and may cause premature wear to components.Use only Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants. Use only Extender with Cat ELC.Failure to follow these recommendations can result in shortened cooling system component life.
Reference: For information about the addition of Extender to your cooling system, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant Extender (ELC) - Add" or consult your Caterpillar dealer. If you change the coolant of a machine to Extended Life Coolant from another type of coolant, use a Caterpillar cleaning agent to flush the cooling system. After you drain the cooling system, thoroughly flush the cooling system with clean water. All of the cleaning agent must be removed from the cooling system. If an Extended Life Coolant was previously used, flush the cooling system with clean water. No other cleaning agents are required. Use the following procedure to change the cooling system coolant (ELC).

(2) Cooling system pressure cap The cooling system pressure cap is located at the front of the engine enclosure forward of the engine air precleaner.
Open cooling system pressure cap access cover (1) in order to access cooling system pressure cap (2).
Slowly loosen the cooling system pressure cap in order to relieve system pressure. Remove the cooling system pressure cap.

Locate the cooling system drain valve. The cooling system drain valve is mounted on the inside of the left-hand frame rail behind the rear axle. The rear bottom guard of the machine is equipped with an access hole that will allow operation of the cooling system drain valve without the need to remove the rear bottom guard.
Position a suitable container beneath cooling system drain hose (4). Open cooling system drain valve (3). Allow the coolant to drain into the container.
Flush the cooling system with clean water until the draining water is transparent.
Close the drain valve.
Replace the water temperature regulator. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Water Temperature Regulator - Replace" for the correct procedure.
Add the coolant solution. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill) " for the capacity of the cooling system.
Start the engine. Run the
