Position cage (8) to transfer gear case (4). Do not install shims (9) at this time.
Loosely install two bolts (7) on opposite sides of cage (8) .

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to transfer gear case (4). Position transfer gear case (4) to bevel gear case (6). The weight of transfer gear case (4) is approximately 100 kg (220 lb).

Install bolts (5) that hold transfer gear case (4) to bevel gear case (6). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 270 40 N m (199 30 lb ft).
Tighten two bolts (7) alternately in increments of 4.5 N m (40.0 lb in) until a final torque of 13.6 N m (120.0 lb in) is achieved.
Loosen two bolts (7). Tighten two bolts (7) finger tight.
Rotate transfer gear (14) (not shown) by a minimum of three revolutions and tighten two bolts (7) to a torque of 4.5 N m (40 lb in) so that the bearings seat correctly.
Rotate transfer gear (14) (not shown) by a minimum of three revolutions and tighten two bolts (7) to a torque of 9.0 N m (80 lb in) so that the bearings seat correctly.
Repeat Step 33 until two bolts (7) cannot be tightened by the mechanic at a torque of 9.0 N m (80 lb in).
Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap between cage (8) and transfer gear case (4). Measure the gap at the edges of cage (8) in alignment with two bolts (7). Average these two measurements. Add 0.23 mm (0.009 inch) to the average of the two measurements. The correct bearing end play is 0.100 0.050 mm (0.0040 0.0020 inch).
Remove two bolts (7), and cage (8) .
Install the correct number of shims (9) (not shown).
Position cage (8) and install bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).

Tighten two bolts (15) alternately in increments of 4.5 N m (40 lb in) to a final torque of 13.6 N m (120 lb in).
Loosen two bolts (15). Tighten two bolts (15) until two bolts (15) are finger tight.
Rotate the transfer gear (23) by a minimum of three revolutions and tighten two bolts (15) to a torque of 4.5 N m (40 lb in) so that the bearings seat correctly.
Rotate transfer gear (23) by a minimum of three revolutions and tighten two bolts (15) to a torque of 9.0 N m (80 lb in) so that the bearings seat correctly.
Repeat Step 42 until two bolts (15) can not be tightened by the mechanic at a torque of 9.0 N m (80 lb in).
Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap between cage (17) and transfer gear case (4). Measure the gap at the edges of cage (17) in alignment with two bolts (15). Average these two measurements. Add 0.043 mm (0.017 inch) to the average of the two measurements. The correct bearing end play is 0.100 0.050 mm (0.0040 0.0020 inch).
