The grille assembly, radiator, hydraulic oil cooler, fan and hood are removed for better photo illustration of the removal and installation of the water pump seal.1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system.2. Remove the panel assembly from over the water pump.3. Remove the vee belt set for the fan. This will permit the belt tightener to move away from the water pump. 4. Disconnect heater hose (1) from the housing assembly.5. Remove the hose from the housing assembly on the water pump to the inlet elbow on the radiator.6. Remove bolts (2) that hold the housing assembly in position. Remove housing assembly (3). 7. Remove adapter (4) from the water pump. Inspect the O-ring seals for wear and damage on the adapter and make a replacement of the O-ring seals if necessary. 8. Loosen the impeller bolt 3.18 mm (1/8 in.). Install tooling (A). Loosen the impeller (5) on the shaft. Remove tooling (A) and the impeller. 9. Remove seal assembly (6) from the water pump shaft.10. Make a replacement of ceramic ring (7) and the seal in the water pump housing anytime a replacement of the seal assembly is made.Install Water Pump Seal
Clean water only is permitted for use as a lubricant for assistance at installation. Do not damage or put hands on the wear surface of the carbon ring or the ceramic ring. Install the ceramic ring with the smoothest face of the ring toward the carbon seal assembly.
1. Put ceramic ring (1) in position in the rubber seal. Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement seal group) to install the ceramic ring and seal in the water pump housing. 2. Remove the spring from the seal assembly (2). Use hand pressure and the tool (which is with the replacement seal group) to install the seal assembly. Push the seal assembly on the water pump shaft until the seal and ceramic ring faces make light contact.3. Install the spring on the seal assembly over the shaft. 4. Install impeller (3). Install the washer and bolt that hold the impeller. Tighten the bolt to a torque of 38 3 N m (28 2 lb.ft.). 5. Put clean oil on the O-ring seal and put it in position around the edge of the adapter. Install the O-ring seal in position on the face of the adapter.6. Push adapter (4) into position in the water pump housing. Make sure the groove in the adapter is in alignment with the dowel in the water pump housing. 7. Install housing assembly (6) over the water pump. Install the bolts that hold it.8. Install the hose from the water pump to the inlet elbow on the radiator.9. Connect heater hose (5) to the housing assembly.10. Install the vee belt set for the fan.11. Install the panel over the water pump. The location of the panel is on the left side of the machine. Fill the cooling system with coolant.
