1. Remove air cleaner housing (1) from the engine. See Air Cleaner Housing.2. Remove fan guard (4) from the radiator group. See Fan Guard.3. Loosen bolts (2), (6) and the lower nut on adjusting rod (3) to loosen the Vee belt tension.4. Remove Vee belts (5) from the engine.5. Remove bolt (6) that holds the block to the alternator. 6. Fasten a nylon strap and a hoist to the fan and fan drive as shown.
Do not damage the radiator core when the fan and fan drive are removed from the engine.
7. Remove the four bolts that hold fan bracket assembly (7) to the timing gear cover.8. Remove the fan and fan drive as a unit from the engine. The fan and fan drive weigh 28 kg (62 lb.). The following steps are for the installation of the fan and fan drive.
Do not damage the radiator core when the fan and fan drive are installed on the engine.
9. Fasten a nylon strap and hoist to the fan and fan drive as a unit. Put it in position on the timing gear cover.10. Install the four bolts that hold fan bracket assembly (7) to the timing gear cover.11. Install bolt (6) that holds the block to the alternator. Do not tighten the bolt at this time.12. Install Vee belts (5) on the engine.13. Use tool (A) to measure the belt tension. Adjust the belt tension until the gauge reading for a new belt is 534 22 N (120 5 lb.). Adjust the belt tension until the gauge reading for a used belt is 400 44 N (90 10 lb.). A used belt is one which has more than 30 minutes of operation at rated engine speed. When the belt tension is correct, tighten bolts (2), (6) and the lower adjusting nuts on rod (3).14. Install fan guard (4) on the radiator group. See Fan Guard.15. Install air cleaner housing (1) on the engine. See Air Cleaner Housing.
