Left Side of Instrument Panel (1) Tamper switchTamper switch (1) is on the left side of the instrument panel. The tamper switch is a three-position toggle switch. The operator control unit monitors the input signal from this switch in order to determine the position of the switch.The top position of tamper switch (1) is the AUTOMATIC position. The center position of the switch is the OFF position. The bottom position of the switch is the MANUAL position. Contact "1" of the tamper switch is connected to terminal "J2-26" of the operator control unit. Contact "2" is connected to a common return at terminal "J2-22" of the operator control unit. Contact "3" of tamper switch is connected to terminal "J2-25" of operator control unit. When tamper switch (1) is in the OFF position, the circuit across the switch is open. When the tamper switch is in the MANUAL position, contact "1" and contact "2" of the switch are closed. When the tamper switch is in the AUTOMATIC position, contact "2" and contact "3" of the switch are closed.

Main Screed Operator Station (2) Tamper speed dial (3) Tamper ramp dialThe main screed operator station is equipped with tamper speed dial (2) and tamper ramp dial (3) .Tamper speed dial (2) sets the speed of the tamper bar. Rotation of the tamper speed dial in the clockwise direction increases the tamper speed. The dial is mapped from 0 rpm to a maximum of 1700 rpm. A Potentiometer is connected to tamper speed dial (2). Contact "A" of the potentiometer receives power from terminal "J1-11" of the screed ECM. Contact "B" of the potentiometer is grounded at a common sensor return at terminal "J1-21" of the screed ECM. Contact "C" of the potentiometer sends an output signal to terminal "J1-36" of the screed ECM.Tamper ramp dial (3) will determine the speed of the tamper bar. Rotation of the tamper ramp dial in the clockwise direction will increase the tamper ramp. The dial is mapped from a minimum of 100 rpm per second to the maximum of 1000 rpm per second.Tamper ramp dial (3) is connected to a potentiometer. Contact "B" of the tamper ramp potentiometer is connected to a common ground. Contact "C" of the potentiometer is connected to terminal "J1-30" of the machine ECM. Contact "A" of the potentiometer is not used. Note: The machine ECM uses the tamper ramp potentiometer as a variable pull down resistor. In this application, the ECM can monitor the voltage drop across the potentiometer internally by monitoring the output voltage at terminal "J1-30".
