At operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap on the radiator is cool enough to touch with our bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin. Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
1. Drain the coolant into a suitable container. The capacity of the cooling system is 60.6 liters (16 U.S. gal).2. Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container. The capacity of the transmission is 67 liters (17.5 U.S. gal).
To avoid possible contamination of the transmission oil system, cap both transmission oil lines and also the openings on transmission oil cooler.
3. Disconnect two transmission hose assemblies (1). Remove bolt and reposition two hose assemblies (2).4. Remove two bolts (3) securing oil cooler (4) to bracket.5. Remove four washers and bolts (5) from the flange of transmission oil cooler (4), and remove the cooler and its flange gasket.6. Separate the rear bonnet from the oil cooler core assembly. Use an appropriate sized rod to clean the tube bundles. The following steps are for the installation of the transmission oil cooler.7. Clean the transmission oil cooler flange gasket, and inspect for wear or damage. Replace as necessary.8. Secure the rear bonnet and its gasket to the oil cooler core assembly.9. Position transmission oil cooler (4) and its gasket, and secure using four washers and bolts (5) on the front cooler flange.10. Install two bolts (3) securing oil cooler (4) to bracket.11. Remove all caps and plugs, and connect two transmission hose assemblies (1). Install bolt and reposition two hose assemblies (2).12. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level. See "Lubricant Viscosities & Refill Capacities" in the Operations & Maintenance Manual.13. Fill the transmission with transmission oil.
