Cracks may develop in the welds on the crossmember in the front frame. Cracks may occur at the support plates for the lift cylinder or at the joint between the crossmember and the side plates of the frame. The root cause of these cracks is unknown.Solution

Inspect the crossmember in order to determine if cracks are present. Refer to Illustration 1 for the locations that should be inspected. If cracks are present, report the cracks to Large Wheel Loader Product Support through the Dealer Solution Network (DSN).Note: When you report these cracks to the DSN, refer to the correct part number. If the cracks are around the plates that support the lift cylinder, refer to the 148-6707 Crossmember As . If the cracks are at the joint between the crossmember and the side plate of the frame, refer to the 257-2539 Front Frame As .Note: The 148-6707 Crossmember As is not a serviceable part.Use the procedure that follows in order to repair cracks in the welds of the crossmember.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.
Remove the lift cylinder from the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lift Cylinder - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

Crossmember (rear view) (1) Gusset plate
If a weld that is beneath the gusset plate is cracked, the gusset plate should be removed. Refer to the following steps in order to remove the gusset plate.
