(6) Valve spring retainer
Place valve spring retainer (6) with the nose towards the rear of the fluid end.

(6) Valve spring retainer
Place valve spring retainer tool (A) on top of valve spring retainer (6). The handle of the valve spring retainer tool should be parallel with the block.

Press straight down on valve spring retainer tool (A) and set valve spring retainer (6) in the retaining pocket of the block. Refer to Illustration 8 for a properly installed valve spring retainer.

If valve spring retainer (6) looks like Illustration 9, use valve spring retainer tool (A) to tap the valve spring retainer until the valve spring retainer is flush with the plunger bore.

(9) Polypak seal
Once the valve retainer is installed properly, install Polypak seal (9) onto suction cover (7) with O-ring (8) facing the fluid. Refer to Illustration 11 for the correct installation of the Polypak seal.

Apply 129-1966 Multipurpose Grease or equivalent to the Polypak seal on the suction cover.

Apply a small amount of Loctite® LB 8009 Heavy Duty Anti‐Seize on the fluid end threads

(7) Suction cover
Install suction cover (7) in the section bore at an angle.

(10) Suction cover retaining nut
Thread the suction cover retaining nut (10) into the bore.
Use the sledge hammer on hex wrench (B) to tighten suction cover retaining nut (10).

After suction cover retaining nut (10) is fully installed with hex wrench (B) and the sledge hammer, use a paint pen to mark the location.
After installing the suction cover retaining nut, confirm that the suction cover is sitting above the valve retainer.
Repeat this process for the other bores on the fluid end.
Once all the suction cover retaining nuts are installed, move on to rebuilding the discharge side on the fluid end.Reference Section
