Information:
In order to avoid the build up of hazardous live voltages on the exposed surfaces, all grounding wires must be properly connected at all times during engine operation.Any disconnected grounding wires (including the grounding bond wires, the conductor shield wires, the power inverter grounding straps and the component housing grounding straps) must be properly reconnected before the engine is started.Failure to follow these instructions could result in personal injury or death.
Test Step 1. SAFE SHUTDOWN PROCEDUREThis procedure must be performed before the machine is serviced, in order to ensure that the DC Power Bus voltage and the DC Accessory Power Bus voltage are at a low voltage level.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.Note: The amber Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator on the left fender will remain illuminated until the hazardous voltage in the systems is at a safe level (50.0 VDC or less). The lamp will operate regardless of the state of the disconnect switch.
Observe the state of the amber Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator. If the indicator IS ILLUMINATED, do not perform any type of electrical service on the machine. Wait until the lamp is NOT ILLUMINATED. Then, perform the lamp test in the next step.
While the indicator is observed, turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position and then turn the disconnect switch to the ON position.Expected Result:When the disconnect switch is turned ON and OFF, the amber Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator will illuminate and the indicator will turn OFF. This indicates that the operation of the lamp is correct. Results:
OK - The amber Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator is not illuminated. The operation of the Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator has been checked and the indicator operation is correct. The disconnect switch can be turned to the OFF position. WHEN A CONNECTOR FOR THE AC POWER SYSTEM OR THE DC POWER SYSTEM IS INITIALLY DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER INVERTER OR THE APC, DO NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH THE EXPOSED CONTACTS OF THE CONDUCTOR. A MULTIMETER IS USED FOR MEASURING THE DC VOLTAGE AT THE EXPOSED CONDUCTORS. VERIFY THAT THERE IS LESS THAN 50.0 VOLTS PRESENT BETWEEN THE EXPOSED CONDUCTORS AND FRAME GROUND BEFORE ANY PROCEEDING TO THE NEXT STEP.
NOT OK - The amber Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator will be illuminated and the indicator will not turn OFF. Else, a Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator error message has been activated on the Message Display. The operation of the Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator does not appear to be correct. Repair: Use the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (CAT ET) Service Tool or use the Message Display display in order to monitor the voltage levels of the DC Power Bus and the DC Accessory Power Bus. The voltage level must be below 50.0 VDC before the troubleshooting for the ground fault is started. If a CID 3242 diagnostic code for the lamp circuit is active or when the operation of the Hazardous Voltage System Energized Indicator circuit does not appear to be correct, refer
