Rework Procedure
Note: Ensure that all safety information, warnings, and instructions are read and understood before any operation or any maintenance procedures are performed. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual "Safety Section".
Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.
1. Locate and remove the existing 2418368/">241-8368 Main Power Relay.
2. Mount the new 2418368/">241-8368 Main Power Relay. Ensure the new relay has a date code on 5 Oct 2015 or newer. This date code can be found on the bottom of the relay.
3. Clean and install the appropriate bus bars/ring terminals.
4. Ensure that the additional new 4B-4277 and 490-4245 Washers are placed between the nut and the bus bar/ring terminal. Use the hardware stack-up shown in Image1.1.1 as a reference.
Image1.1.1
5. Tighten the nuts to a specified torque of 9 +/- 0.5 N.m (80 +/- 4.4 lb in). This torque is critical for a good electrical connection. Over tightening of the nuts will cause damage to the main power relay cap and studs. Verify the torque with 9U-5017 or an equivalent torque wrench.
Note: A few degrees of stud rotation is acceptable. If the stud moves with the attached ring terminal, it is not considered to be a loose bolted joint.
Note: For machines that use bus bars, ensure that the vinyl coating on the bus bars is not part of the bolted joint. Cut off any portion that interferes with the electrical connection.
6. Secure the cables and wiring within 5 inches of the relay if possible.
Note: Do not secure the wiring directly to the relay housing. The relay housing gets hot and may deteriorate the insulation.
