Schematic of the Hoe Right (Machine) Joystick Thumbwheel Position SensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the Hoe Right (Machine) Joystick Thumbwheel Position Sensor. The FMI 04 means that the ECM has determined that the voltage of the circuit for the switch is below normal. The switch operates at a frequency of approximately 500 hertz. The switch has an operating duty cycle of 10% to 90%. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit for the switch is shorted to ground.
The switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. System Response:The diagnostic code of CID 2531 FMI 04 will be logged in the internal memory of the ECM and a level 2 warning will be generated. All implement functions will be disabled.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2531 FMI 04 is active before performing this procedure. Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. INSPECT THE SWITCH.
Perform a visual inspection of the switch, the wiring for the switch and the hardware that is associated with the switch.Expected Result:There is no apparent damage to the switch, the wiring for the switch or the hardware that is associated with the switch. Results:
OK - There is no apparent damage to the switch, the wiring for the switch or the hardware that is associated with the switch. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - There is apparent damage to the switch, the wiring for the switch or the hardware that is associated with the switch. Repair: Replace the damaged part. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ADJUSTMENT AND/OR THE CALIBRATION OF THE SWITCH.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch
