The LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE CHART lists all serviceable items which are either standard equipment or attachments commonly ordered on your model of engine.Items needing periodic maintenance are grouped according to frequency of service. Items needing service AS REQUIRED are grouped by Systems, and follow the periodic interval items.Use the service meter to determine servicing intervals. The service meter readings are based on engine speed, not clock hours. Perform previous interval items at multiples of the original requirement. For example, at 100 service hours, also perform those items listed under "Every 50 Service Hours" and "Every 10 Service Hours". Note A: Service intervals will be shortened under dusty conditions. If after servicing the air cleaner, the exhaust smoke and/or loss of power continues, discard the element and install a new element. FUEL: A properly equipped engine will develop full rated horsepower on a clean, dry natural gas fuel having a minimum heat value of 900 BTU (British Thermal Unit) per cubic feet (33.533 kJ/m3). Consult your Caterpillar dealer for recommendations if a lower heat value fuel is to be used. NGO: Use only NATURAL GAS ENGINE OILS in your Caterpillar Gas Engine Crankcase. Natural Gas Engine Oils meet or exceed the Supplement 1 Diesel Engine Oil Specifications. These oils contain ashless dispersant additives, and either ashless or organo-metallic oxidation inhibitors. Your oil supplier knows which oils meet these requirements. MPG: Use Multipurpose-type Grease. Multipurpose-type grease which contains 3% to 5% molybdenum disulfide is also acceptable, and preferred. NLGI No. 2 Grade is suitable for most temperatures. Use NLGI No. 1 or No. 0 Grade for extremely low temperature. BATTERY WATER: Use either distilled water; or, odorless, tasteless drinking water. Do not use mineral water, water containing iron, salt water or softened water. ENGINE COOLANT: If the ambient temperature is expected to go below 32° F (0° C) the cooling system must be protected to the lowest expected temperature with a permanent type antifreeze and water solution. Use clean water that is low in scale forming minerals, not softened water. Add 1 pint (.5 litre) Caterpillar Corrosion Inhibitor, or equivalent, per 4 U.S. gallons (15 litres) of coolant to provide and maintain a 3% concentration of corrosion inhibitor.
