(9) Output Gear Note: End play for input gear (1) and output gear (9) is 0.15 mm (.006 inch) to a maximum of 0.20 mm (.008 inch).Adjustment Procedure for the Input Gear
Install the bearing cups into input transfer case (8) and cage assembly (4). Make sure that the bearing cups are fully seated. Install the bearing cones. Make sure that the bearing cones are seated against the shoulders of the gear. Use a 0.038 mm (.0015 inch) shim or a feeler gauge in order to check for a gap.
Position input transfer case (8) horizontally with the opening for cage assembly (4) at the top. Place input gear (1) in input transfer case (8). Place cage assembly (4) on input transfer case (8).
Insert two dowels at 180 degree intervals from each other in input transfer case (8).
Assemble cage assembly (4) to input transfer case (8) with shim pack (2). Install bolts (3) and tighten bolts (3) to the proper torque. Note: Make sure that cage assembly (4) does not bind in input transfer case (8).
Rotate the shaft for input gear (1) until the rolling resistance diminishes to a steady level. Tap the shaft for input gear (1) lightly as you rotate the shaft to help the bearings in the assembly to seat.
Use a dial indicator to measure the end play of the shaft. Lift on the shaft in order to measure the end play.
Repeat steps 4 through 6 and adjust shim pack (2) as necessary, in order to obtain
