Schematic of the "Quick Coupler" Solenoid circuitThis diagnostic code is associated with the "Quick Coupler" Solenoid. The FMI 06 diagnostic code means that the Machine ECM has detected that the current for the solenoid circuit is above normal. The Quick Coupler Solenoid is a 24 VDC solenoid that is controlled by a Switch Panel ON/OFF driver output. The "Quick Coupler" Solenoid is energized by the Switch Panel when the "Quick Coupler" enable button on the soft button switch panel is depressed and certain machine conditions are correct. This solenoid can be overridden in Cat ET.The condition of the "Quick Coupler" solenoid is monitored by the Machine ECM. The Machine ECM monitors all transducers linked to the soft pad switch panel via the "CAN B" data link.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to a ground source.
The solenoid has failed.
The Machine ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.
Disconnect the solenoid with the active diagnostic code from the machine harness.Expected Result:The active CID 1530 FMI 06 code changes to a CID 1530 FMI 05 code when the solenoid is disconnected.Results:
YES - The active CID 1530 FMI 06 code changes to a CID 1530 FMI 05 code when the solenoid is disconnected. The circuit is correct.Repair: The solenoid has failed. Repeat this test "CHECK THE SOLENOID" in order to verify the solenoid failure. Replace the solenoid.STOP
NO - The CID 1530 FMI 06 remains active. Disconnecting the solenoid did not affect the status of the diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT TO GROUNDThe solenoid remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the Switch Panel.
At the Switch Panel harness connector, measure the resistance from the contact C17-6 (wire P976-BR) to frame ground. Measure the resistance from the signal contact C17-6 (wire P976-BR) to all of the other contacts that are used on the Switch Panel.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The solenoid circuit is not shorted in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 3.
