Scraper Transmission is slaved to the Tractor Transmission. Refer to Systems Operation, RENR 5741, "Rapid Downshift Function"Rapid Downshift is enabled when the Tractor Transmission ECM detects consecutive downshifts, or the cane position is set to first or second gear. Those actions will indicate that the operator is attempting to coast down into the cut, and the Tractor Transmission will modify the shift points accordingly.During normal operation, the Scraper Transmission ECM does not allow a speed shift. A speed shift, also called a turn-around-shift, or directional shift. Speed shifts are an upshift immediately following a downshift, or a downshift immediately following an upshift. During speed shift attempts, the ECM imposes a wait-period of approximately 2.5 seconds between the up-to-down, or down-to-up, shift. The Scraper Transmission ECM performs this function to prevent the clutches from overheating.The Scraper Transmission ECM can override the speed shift time delay, if the operator suddenly applies the brakes. In these situations only, downshifts will now occur immediately, following an up shift, as the decreasing transmission output speed dictates. This function is enabled whenever an operator makes a sudden stop, while the 2.5-second directional shift time delay is in effect.
