This diagnostic code is associated with the transmission lock switch. The switch is connected to two inputs of the ECM. One contact is open and the other contact is grounded during proper operation. Refer to table 1. This FMI 03 means that the ECM has determined that the normally open contact and the normally closed contact are open.Possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
There is a failure in the harness.
The switch has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean and secure. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0348 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.

Unlocked Open Closed System Response:When this diagnostic code occurs, there is no change in the system operation. The transmission will remain in the last known state, either "locked" or "unlocked".Test Step 1. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT OF THE SWITCH IN THE HARNESS.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Place the switch in the UNLOCKED position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector(s) from the switch.
Measure the resistance between contact 5 (wire 202-BK(Black)) at the switch and frame ground. Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. The circuit is open. The machine harness has failed.Repair: Repair the machine harness
