On the main screed control panel, set the tamper bar speed control (13) to the two o clock position. Rotate the tamper bar ramp time control (14) counterclockwise to zero. Set the vibration frequency control (15) at the midpoint. Place the tamper and vibration control switches on the operator console in Auto position. Depending on the type of mix and the paving speed, adjust each control when paving starts. The objectives are to achieve the target density for pre-compaction by the screed and to produce a mat with consistent texture and smoothness. As a rule, the higher the paving speed, the higher you will have to adjust the tamper speed and the vibration frequency. The tamper ramp time is normally adjusted when using stabilized material for base. With asphalt mix the tamper ramp time is set at zero so that it starts immediately when starting to pave.Step 15

Start with speed control dial (16) set at zero, the fully counter-clockwise position. Make sure gear selector (17) is set to PAVE mode, the engine throttle (18) is set to high idle, the parking brake (19) is released, and the propel lever (20) is moved all the way forward.Then turn the speed control dial (16) clockwise until the desired paving speed is reached.Operational Adjustments

Rear mounted extensions with extender screeds set too lowIf an extender is set too low, there will be a longitudinal transition mark in line with the inner edge of the screed extender. The mat will be thinner behind the screed extender.Use the manual height crank to raise the extender until no transition mark is present.
