Open the access cover (7) that is located on the right side of the screed. Open the protective cover (8) .
Make sure that switch (9) is set to the EXTRA position.
Check the switches (11) on both sides of the screed. If your machine is equipped with a 0.25 m (9.84 inch) extension or a 0.7 m (27.56 inch) extension, move the switch to the UP position. If your machine uses two sets of 0.7 m (27.56 inch) extensions, move the switch to the DOWN position. Make sure that you change the setting for both sides of the screed.Control Unit's Wiring
The control unit can control the temperature for four different sections of the screed. Each section has a unique wire color. Refer to the following table in order to differentiate between the section's wiring harnesses. The wire color is used on all coil, all temperature sensor, and all solenoid valves. The wire color is also consistent in the control unit.

Turn the control unit OFF by pressing button (12) .
Press button (16) so that the display screen (13) reads "1".
Press button (14) or (15) in order to select the correct sensor. Match solenoid "1" with section "1" of the screed.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other sections of the screed. Refer to table 1 in order to determine the section's number.Note: If you match a section with "0" that section will not ignite. The matches are automatically saved by the control unit after being set. You can check the matches for any of the screed's sections.Errors with the Coil
When the red indicator on a coil turns ON, one of the following faults has occurred.
The positive pole of the spark plug is too far away from the ionized air.
There is an open circuit in the high voltage cable.
The spark plug has failed.
There is a fault in the coil's power supply.
The coil is faulty. If it is necessary to replace a high voltage cable, consult with your local Caterpillar dealer.Spark Plug's Position
