G3616 (4CG) EnginesA new 163-5443 Breakout Harness is now available for testing the detonation sensor in all of the above gas engines. This tool will allow a mechanic to perform a basic check of a detonation sensor. This basic check will give information on the status of the supply voltage, the DC output voltage, and it will give an AC response from the detonation sensor as well. The procedure to perform this check is as follows:
1. Remove power from the control system.2. Dismount the suspect detonation sensor from the engine.3. Install the 163-5443 Breakout Harness between the suspect detonation sensor and the engine harness.4. Turn the engine control switch to the stop position, leaving the EIS Control Module powered.5. Set the multimeter on the 20 VDC scale and measure the voltage at the breakout harness from socket-A to socket-B. The reading should be 13-1 VDC. If the reading is incorrect, refer to the Sensor Power Supply section of the Troubleshooting Guide. If the reading is correct, go on to Step 6.6. Set the multimeter on the 10 VDC scale and measure the voltage at the breakout harness from socket-C to socket-B. The reading should be 6.15-0.72 VDC. If the reading is incorrect replace the sensor. If the reading is correct, go on to Step 7.7. Set the multimeter on the 5 VAC scale and lightly tap the detonation sensor on the engine block. You should temporarily see a voltage change when you tap the sensor. If the reading is incorrect, replace the sensor. If the reading is correct, the sensor is good.
