PROBLEM
The adjusting screw locknut may not have been tightened properly on the main relief valve on certain Off-Highway Truck, Wheel Tractor-Scraper, Track-Type Tractor, and/or Underground Articulated Truck Transmissions ordered from the parts system. If the transmission is operated with a loose locknut, the transmission main relief pressure setting could decrease over time, which possibly could result in a clutch failure.
ACTION REQUIRED
Certain transmissions shipped to the parts system starting in Feb 2017 need to be inspected for a loose locknut on the main relief valve. The transmissions in the table below need to be inspected:

If one of the above transmissions has already been installed in a machine it is recommended that this inspection is performed at the next scheduled PM opportunity.
Inspection Procedure
1. The inspection may be performed in any location that allows clean and safe working conditions.
2. Follow all safety requirements to ensure safe access to the area around the transmission cover.
3. Review the illustrations below for the transmission being worked on. Remove the cover plate and set aside. Take care to avoid damage to the seal/gasket when removing the cover from the transmission. Be sure to keep the cover protected from contamination. Use a 9/16 inch wrench for the 293-6120 Trans Ar, and a 16mm wrench for all other listed Trans Ar.
4. Locate the transmission main relief valve. With fingers, check the locknut to see if it is loose. If it is tight, no further action is necessary. Skip to step 6.
5. If the locknut is loose, use a ? inch (13mm) wrench to hold the adjusting screw to prevent it from turning and use a ? inch (13mm) wrench to tighten the locknut to 18 +/- 4 N-m.
6. Wipe off the mounting surfaces of both the transmission and cover to remove any debris and
inspect the seal/gasket for damage. Replace the seal/gasket if necessary then reinstall the
cover. Tighten the bolts to 55 +/- 10 N-m. If a replacement seal/gasket is required, the part
numbers are:
- 7G-6373 for Trans Ar 246-2647, 248-2036, 279-2520, 293-6120, 315-6272, 326-4820, 468-3142
- 416-0654 for Trans Ar 354-0148, 354-0149, 384-4149, 385-8820
7. Any time a transmission is installed into a machine, the main relief pressure should be checked.
