Introduction
This instruction gives the procedure for using the 4C4069 [38.1 mm (1.5 in)] and 4C4070 [44.5 mm (1.75 in)] Seal Installers.The installer tool is used to install seals quickly and safely without damage.
InstallerInstallation Guidelines
Listed below are guidelines to follow that will help prevent seal damage during installation while using the installer. Proper usage of the installer will ensure optimum seal performance and service life.1. Clean and lubricate all gland hardware, shamban seal components and the installer tool. Check all hardware for burrs or sharp edges before installation.2. Install the elastomer ring (1) into gland assembly (2) as shown below.3. Using your fingers, collapse shamban seal (3) and install into gland assembly (2), as shown below. Use extreme care not to crease seal while installing into gland assembly. If necessary, heat seal in oil or water to 100°C (212°F) to assist in installation.4. Place installation tool (4) into gland assembly (2) as shown below. Installation tool is used to smooth out the I.D. of the seal after installation.5. Insert resizing tool (5), while twisting and pushing, into bore to size the seal. Remove the resizing tool from the seal and bore after one minute. The resizing tool must be fabricated to the specifications as shown below. The suggested material used for fabricating the tool is plastic.
(A) Bore diameter + 0.127 mm (+ .005 in). (B) Bore length + 50.8 mm (+ 2.00 in). When finishing resizing tool, round all edges. This will protect the seal from damage.6. For completion of seal installation, install rod into cylinder bore while twisting and pushing.
