problems are often caused by open or shorted wires. Short circuit - When one part of a circuit contacts another part of the same circuit, the flow is diverted from the desired path.TEST FOR A SHORT CIRCUIT
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect all ends of the harness.
Turn the dial of a calibrated digital multimeter to the 200 Ω range.
Measure the resistance.
Use one multimeter probe to contact the connector of the suspected faulty electrical wire.
Use the other multimeter probe to contact all other the electrical wires, one at a time, in the same harness.If there is continuity between any of the electrical wires, the multimeter will have a reading < 5 Ω. Continuity between any of the other wires in the harness indicates that there is a short between those wires. Repair or replace the harness.
Use the multimeter to test for continuity across the ground (Frame). If there is continuity between any of the electrical wires and ground, the multimeter will have a reading < 5 Ω. If there is continuity between any of the wires and ground, there is a short between the wire and the ground. Repair or replace the harness.Reference Machine Electrical Schematic
