The 4W-9972 Temperature Sender is used to measure the temperature of the oil that is exiting the torque converter. The temperature sender is used on the following machines with the Caterpillar Monitoring System: D5M, D6M, D6R and D7R. The torque converter oil temperature is displayed by the Caterpillar Monitoring System on the gauge cluster in the dash. Some failure conditions of the torque converter oil temperature sender will be diagnosed and logged by the monitoring system. The fault codes are MID 030, CID 177, and FMI 04.Note: The MID (Module Identifier) is important information for this service code because the CID 177 is used for two different devices in different systems on the D5M, D6M, D6R, and D7R.The 8N-3844 Temperature Sender is used to measure the temperature of the oil that is exiting the torque converter on the D8R. The temperature sender is connected directly to the gauge in the dash.The 3E-7262 Temperature Sender is used to measure the temperature of the oil that is exiting the torque converter on the D5M and the D6M machines that do not use the Caterpillar
