Required Parts
Item    Qty    Part Number    Description
(1)     1     322-6392     Plate    Note: This repair process can be completed while the shear is installed on the host machine.Note: Some illustrations show only the housing of the shear. The shear does not need to be disassemble in order to complete this repair.
Illustration 1 g01437912
Extend the boom if the shear is mounted directly to the boom. Extend the boom and the stick. Move the shear to a near horizontal position. Rotate the shear so the fixed jaw on the housing of the shear is on top. The movable jaw will be closest to the ground. Lower the shear to the ground. Refer to Illustration 1.
Install the locks that prevent the shear from rotating.
Turn off the machine.
Illustration 2 g01438001
Example of a crack
Remove the paint from the area. Remove any debris from the area. Refer to Illustration 2.
Gouge out the cracks.
Weld the cracks. Use "ER70 S-G" welding rod or an equivalent wire.Note: Make sure that the ground cable for the welder is attached to the housing of the shear. If the welder is grounded to the jaw, the bushings for the jaw may be damaged.
Prepare the area for the additional weld plate. Grind the area smooth from the repair that occurred earlier.
Illustration 3 g01438049
(1) 322-6392 Plate (A) 35 mm (1.38 inch) (B) 100 mm (3.94 inch)
Place plate (1) into position on the shear housing. Refer to Illustration 3.
Illustration 4 g01437554
(C) Preheat (W1) 10 mm (0.4 inch) Weld with 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) root penetration all around.
Preheat the weld areas (C) to 200° to 250°C (392° to 450°F). Refer to Illustration 4.
Weld completely around the plate. Refer to Illustration 4.Note: Make sure that the ground cable for the welder is attached to the housing of the shear. If the welder is grounded to the jaw, the bushings for the jaw may be damaged.
Place an insulated blanket over the area. Allow the weld to cool slowly to room temperature.
Coat the repaired areas with black paint after the welds have cooled.
