Emergency shutoff controls are for EMERGENCY use ONLY. DO NOT use emergency shutoff devices or controls for normal stopping procedure.
Ensure that any components for the external system that aid the engine operation are secured after the engine is stopped.Emergency Stop Button
Use of the emergency stop will shut off the fuel. If the engine is equipped with an air shutoff, the air shutoff will also be activated.
Do not start the engine until the problem necessitating the emergency stop has been located and corrected.
Resetting the emergency stop button before the engine can be restarted may be necessaryIf the emergency stop button is used, the air shutoff must be reset before the engine can be restarted.The power for the ECM must be cycled before the engine can be restarted.Emergency stop under loaded conditions should only occur in emergency situations. The consequences of stopping the engine under loaded conditions are reduced life of the turbocharger and other engine components.Air Shutoff
The reset mechanisms for the air shutoff in your 3500 Engine may look like one of the following reset mechanisms.
Illustration 1 g01676674The air shutoff is activated by oil pressure when energy to a solenoid is interrupted. The air shutoff uses a plate that rotates on a shaft in order to shut off inlet air to the aftercooler. The engine stops because of the restricted air supply to the combustion chamber. The air shutoff will actuate for the following conditions:
The emergency stop button is pressed.
The air shutoff is activated.
An over-speed shutdown occurs.
The electronic control module loses power.To reset the air shutoff on earlier models, turn the reset knob to the "OPEN" position. To reset the air shutoff on later models, turn the hex until the indicator is at the "OPEN" position.Ensure that the air shutoff is reset before starting the engine. Ensure that the cause of the emergency stop is repaired before starting the engine.
