Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.

Open drain valve (8). Rotate ring (6). Remove fuel filter and water separator kit (7) as a unit.
Disconnect tube assemblies (1) and (5) .Install plugs into the tube assemblies in order to prevent fuel loss and contamination.
Remove bolts (2) and (4). Remove fuel filter base (3) .Installation Procedure

Install fuel filter base (3) into position. Install bolts (2) and (4). Connect tube assemblies (1) and (5).
Install fuel filter and water separator kit (7) as a unit onto fuel filter base (3). Secure fuel filter and water separator kit (7) onto fuel filter base (3) with ring (6) .
Close drain valve (8) .
Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Priming Pump - Operate".
