For this reason, the bottom end of the pin will not extend out of the bottom of the bracket. The retainer holds the pin in the bracket.
Formerly, the pin was held in place with a cotter pin. In applications where there is rock to be moved, shock loads some times cause the cotter pin to break. The linkage pin can then work out of the bracket.
Adaptable To: The new parts, used together, are adaptable to all 8S, 8U and 8R Bulldozers for D8H and D8K Tractors, and 9S, 9U and 9R Bulldozers for D9G and D9H Tractors. Illustrations 1 and 2 show the locations of the new parts in the push arm and brace groups for the D8K and D9G Tractors respectively.
Illustration 3 shows the dimensions and specifications for installation of the new parts.
Illustration 3. Dimensions and specifications for installation of the blocks and retainers. The diameter of the bore in the block is larger than the diameter of the bore in the bracket. Both the bore in the block and the bore in the bracket must have the same center line to be in correct alignment.... Move the bracket for the tilt brace adjustment bar forward 17.78 mm (.700") to give clearance for the block, pin, retainer and hardware.... Put the block in alignment with the bracket.... Then tack weld the block to the bracket, and check its alignment.... Weld the block to the bracket, according to the specifications given in Illustration 3.... Remove all weld spatter and slag.... Install the pins and fasten the retainers to the blocks with the S1587 Bolts and 5P8245 Washers.... Start the tractor and slowly test the bulldozer through its complete range of movements.
