Schematic of the transmission solenoid "2".This diagnostic code is associated with the Transmission Solenoid 2. The FMI 05 means that the ECM has determined that the current is below normal.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The solenoid energizer circuit of the solenoid valve is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid valve is open.
The solenoid has failed.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 1402 FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Note: The solenoid coil resistance is 5 .3 ohms.System Response:When this diagnostic code is active, the ECM will turn off the current to the failed solenoid.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Disconnect the solenoid with the active diagnostic code from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire 836-GN) to contact 2 (wire H804-GN).
Observe the status of the CID 1402 FMI 05.Expected Result:The CID 1402 FMI 05 changes to CID 1402 FMI 06.Results:
OK - The CID 1402 FMI 05 changes to CID 1402 FMI 06. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Replace the solenoid.STOP
NOT OK - The CID 1402 FMI 05 diagnostic code remains active. The jumper wire does not affect the diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
Remove the jumper wire that was installed in the previous test step.
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from signal contact J1-62 (wire 836-GN) to ground. Measure the resistance from contact J1-60 (wire H804-GN) to ground.Expected Result:Both of the resistance measurements are less than 5.0 ohms.Results:
OK - Both of the resistance measurements are less than 5.0 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - One or more of the resistance measurements are greater than 5 ohms. The resistance measurement is not correct. There is an open circuit in the machine harness. The open is in wire circuit that has the highest resistant measurement.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL ACTIVE
Insure the key start switch and the disconnect switch are in the OFF position.
Remove all jumper wires previously installed on any connector.
Inspect the contacts and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all disconnected machine harness connectors. Ensure that all the connectors are fully seated. Observe that the clips for each connector are securely fastened.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Check the status of the CID 1402 FMI 05
