Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: The pressure must be removed from the system before service can be performed. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure Release".
Park the machine on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.

Locate hydraulic fan return oil filter (1) on the front of the hydraulic oil tank. The hydraulic oil tank is located on the right-hand side of the machine near the articulation joint.
Press hydraulic oil tank breaker relief valve in order to relieve any hydraulic oil tank pressure. Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on containing fluid spillage.
Remove used filter (1) from the filter base. Note: Used filters should always be disposed of according to local regulations.
Clean the filter base.
Apply a thin coat of clean hydraulic oil to the seal on the new filter.
Install the new filter by hand. Instructions for the installation of the filter are printed on the side of each Cat spin-on filter. For filters that are not Cat branded, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.Note: You may need to use a Caterpillar strap wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn the filter to the amount that is required for final installation. Make sure that the installation tool does not damage the filter.
Start the engine and operate the machine slowly for 10 to 15 minutes.
Stop the engine.
Check the hydraulic oil level. Reference: For the correct procedure, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Level - Check".
Check the machine for oil leaks. Make any necessary repairs.
