Upgrading The Magnetic Switch Enclosure Group
The current magnetic enclosure group must be upgraded to the new 108-5564 Junction Box Group. Remove all the components of the former magnetic switch enclosure group and install the components of the new 108-5564 Junction Box Group identified in Chart A and Illustrations 1 and 2. Illustration 3 shows the Wiring Schematic for the new junction box group.

Upgrading the electric starting motor will provide the correct solenoid necessary for usage with the automatic/unmanned start stop systems on locomotive engines. The new 107-0997 Starting Motor includes the new 3E-7769 Starter Solenoid. The current 3T-8943 and 6V-0508 Electric Starting Motor Groups include the 3T-5051 Starter Solenoid. These starting motors can be upgraded by replacing the 3T-5051 Starter Solenoid with the new 3E-7769 Starter Solenoid. Chart B identifies the available electronic starting motors, the standard starter solenoids, and the starter solenoid required to update the starting motor.
When replacing a 3T-8943 or 6V-0508 Electric Starting Motor Group, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHICH STARTER SOLENOID IS BEING USED. Changing the starter solenoids can change the current starting motor group number to a different group number.
