Raise the temperature of roller bearing cone (16) to install the roller bearing cone onto hub (9). The hub weighs approximately 23.5 kg (52 lb).

Use Tooling (D) to install snap ring (15) to secure ring gear (10) onto hub (9). The ring gear weighs approximately 21.5 kg (47 lb) and the hub weighs approximately 23.5 kg (52 lb).

Use two people to lift hub (9) and ring gear (10) into wheel (11). The hub and ring gear assembly weighs 45 kg (100 lb).
to set the preload for the bearings, follow steps 16.a to 16.h.

Measure the thickness of retainer plate (13) at the three small holes. See the white arrow in illustration 14. Calculate the average thickness of the retainer plate.

Install retainer plate (13) and bolts (12) onto spindle (22). Do not install the shims. Evenly space the bolts next to the three small holes in the retainer plate. See the white arrow in illustration 15.
Tighten bolts (12) to a torque of 100 N m (74 lb ft). Rotate wheel (11) for several revolutions. Torque the bolts and rotate the wheel again.
Loosen bolts (12).
Tighten three bolts (12) to a torque of 40 N m (29.5 lb ft). Rotate wheel (11) for several revolutions. Continue the sequence of torquing the bolts and rotating the wheel until the bolts torque stays at 40 N m (29.5 lb ft).

Use a depth micrometer to measure the depth of the three small holes in retainer plate (13) to the top of the spindle. See the white arrow in illustration 16. Calculate the average depth.
Subtract the average thickness of retainer plate (13) from the average depth of the holes. See step 16.a for the average thickness of the retainer plate and see step 16.f for the average depth of the holes. This is the dimension of the gap between the end of the spindle and the retainer plate.

Remove retainer plate (13). Install shims (14) with a thickness that is equal to the gap, calculated in step 16.g, plus an extra 0.1 mm (0.004 inch). Use a micrometer to check the thickness of the shims.

Install shims (14) (not shown) and install retainer plate (13) with bolts (12) to secure hub (9) and ring gear (10) in wheel (11). Tighten bolts (12) to a torque of 60 12 N m (44 9 lb ft). Turn bolts (12) an additional 120° 10°.

Install O-ring seal (8) onto final drive (6). Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to install the final drive into the final drive and brake wheel group. The final drive weighs approximately 62 kg (137 lb).

Install O-ring seal (5) onto magnetic plug (4). Lightly lubricate the O-ring seal with the lubricant that is being sealed. Install the magnetic plug onto final drive (6). Install bolts (7) that secure the final drive to the final drive and brake wheel group. First torque the bolts to 185 20 N m (135 15 lb
