The improvements include: ... The insert (1) (that contacts the push rod) in the top of the lifter assembly is staked in eight places instead of four. This provides better retention of the insert. See Illustration 1.... A new barrel-shaped pin (3) is used. The new pin allows more alignment capability for the roller (2) and prevents high contact stresses between the roller and camshaft lobe. This will increase the service life of the camshaft.... The pin (3), and lifter body (4), have a drilled oil passage (5). This provides lubrication for the pin and roller.... The lifter pin has the word "LEFT" stamped on one end. This will enable the installer to consistently locate the lifter in the correct direction during installation.Adaptable To: The new 4P1827 Lifter Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 7W8121, 9Y9587, and 7E5246 Lifter Assemblies. See Chart A for the effectivity of this change.
Illustration 1. Location of key lifter assembly components.When installing a new camshaft, it is recommended that all new lifter assemblies be installed. If the lifter assemblies are reused, they should be installed into the same bores from which they were removed. If different cylinder heads are installed or the exact lifter bore the lifter came from is not known, it is recommended the lifter be installed on the same bank from which it was removed.
"LEFT" always faces toward the installer's left, looking at the side of the engine into which the lifter is to be installed.See Illustration 2 and Chart B for the maximum allowable wear limits for the new and former lifter assemblies.
