Do not conduct any service procedures on the DEF system until the lamp is off. The lamp could remain on anywhere between 100 seconds and 7 minutes depending on temperature at shutdown, even though the key-switch is off and the battery switch is off. When the lamp is on, the DEF system is still powered.
Disconnect Switch OFF (1) - Turn the battery disconnect switch key counterclockwise to shut off the entire electrical system.Note: The Engine/DEF ECM will keep running while the DEF system is purging, even when electrical systems are turned off with the disconnect switch. Once purging is complete the system will automatically turn off the Engine/DEF ECM.
Disconnect Switch ON (2) - Turn the battery disconnect switch key clockwise to activate the electrical system. The switch must be ON before you start the engine.The battery disconnect switch and the engine start switch serve different functions. When the battery disconnect switch is turned off, the entire electrical system is disabled. When only the engine start switch is turned off, the battery remains connected to the electrical system.Turn the battery disconnect switch key to the OFF position and remove the battery disconnect switch key when you service the electrical system or when you service any other components of the machine.Turn the battery disconnect switch key to the OFF position and remove the battery disconnect switch key when the machine is left for an extended period of 1 month or longer. This procedure will prevent a short circuit from draining the battery. This procedure will also prevent the components from draining the battery. This procedure will also prevent the battery from being drained by vandalism.
Never turn the battery disconnect switch key to OFF with the engine running. Electrical system damage could result.
To ensure that no damage to the engine occurs, verify that the engine is fully operational before cranking the engine. Do not crank an engine that is not fully operational. Carry out daily checks before cranking engine see "Operation Maintenance Manual" , Maintenance Interval Schedule.
