Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

Connect a hose from each drain valve (2) to a suitable container in order to catch the engine oil.
Open both drain valves (2). Allow the engine oil to drain.
Disconnect harness assembly (1) .

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Note: Some oil will remain in the housing after the oil has been drained. This oil will pour out of the housing when housing (4) is removed. Catch the oil with a pan. Clean up any spilled oil with absorbent towels or pillows. DO NOT use absorbent particles to clean up the oil.
Be alert to the spring force. The spring has a spring force up to 240 N (54 lb). Gradually loosen but do not remove the last two bolts (3) that are located at opposite ends of housings (4). Before removing the last two bolts, pry the housings loose or tap the housings with a rubber mallet in order to relieve the spring pressure. Remove bolts (3) and the washers. Remove housings (4) .

Remove O-ring seal (5) from the inside of the housing. Remove O-ring seal (6) from tube (7). Discard the O-ring seals.

Remove engine oil filter elements (8). Place each engine oil filter element into Tooling (A) for carrying to a proper disposal area.Installation Procedure

Inspect new engine oil filter elements (8) for good condition. Coat the sealing surface of the engine oil filter elements with clean engine oil. Install engine oil filter elements (8) .

Coat new O-ring seals (5) and (6) with clean engine oil. Install O-ring seal (5) onto the housing. Install O-ring seal (6) onto tube (7) .

Install guide pins (9) on the mounting surface for the oil filter housings. See Illustration 7.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
