FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools and Shop Products Guide, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Put the machine on level ground and lower the bowl.1. Remove axle (right tractor wheel only). This operation is in the "Power Train Disassembly and Assembly" section, SENR9060. 2. Install Tooling (D) under the draft frame, as shown. 3. Put wooden blocks under each side of the cushion hitch so it cannot fall to either side.4. Fasten a lift truck to the front of the tractor to hold the weight of the tractor when the vertical pins are removed from the hitch. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system as follows:a. Shut off the engine.b. Move the control levers through their full travel strokes. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the pilot system.c. Slowly loosen the air breather cap on the hydraulic oil tank to release the pressure.d. Tighten the air breather cap on the hydraulic oil tank.e. The pressure in the hydraulic system has now been released. Lines and components can now be removed. Put identification on all of the lines, the hoses, the wires and the tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all of the lines, the hoses and the tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal. 5. Remove bolts (6), yokes (4) and pins (5). Disconnect rod assemblies (2) from the steering links.6. Disconnect grease lines (3) and hose assembly (1). 7. Disconnect hoses (7) and electrical wiring harness (8) from the bracket. 8. Disconnect electrical wiring connectors (9) at the disconnect on the bracket. Remove wire clips (10), and pull the wiring forward. 9. Disconnect hose assemblies (11), (12) and (13) from the tube and the hose assemblies.10. Install Tooling (B) and caps on the oil lines on the right side of the gooseneck. 11. Do Steps 9 and 10 for hose assemblies (14), (15) and (16) on the left side of the hitch. 12. Remove bolt (17) that holds the rod end of steering cylinder (servo-sender) (18) to the steering links. 13. Remove yokes (19) from the two front steering link pins. 14. Remove two steering link pins (22).15. Remove locks (21) and yokes (20) from the two vertical hitch pins. 16. Use Tooling (C) and a block of wood to push vertical hitch pins (23) out of the hitch.17. Pull the tractor clear of the gooseneck. 18. Remove three washers (24) from the hitch. 19. Remove seals (25) from the hitch. 20. Use Tooling (A) to remove the six bearings for the vertical hitch pins from the hitch and the gooseneck.Connection
