Information:
Transmission Selector Lever
Power is transferred from the engine through the marine transmission to the propeller shaft. The marine transmissions can be operated by using one of the following methods:
Mechanical
Hydraulic
Pneumatic
ElectricalA control valve directs the flow of oil to the forward clutch or to the reverse clutch. The control valve is operated by a transmission selector lever. The transmission selector lever can be manually operated or remotely operated.Normally, the marine transmission is operated from the pilot house. The controls of the pilot house must be adjusted to permit full travel of the transmission selector lever. The adjustment will also permit full engagement of the clutch plates. When the remote controls are properly adjusted, periodic clutch adjustment is not required. Before Setting Out
A selection of spare parts are recommended to take on board is advised:
Sea water impeller
A selection of hose clips
Fuses
Fuel filters
Engine lubricating oil
Strong adhesive tape
A selection of toolsSafety equipment should be available for all on board and ensure all should be informed of where items are and how the equipment works. The following items should be on board the vessel:
Life vests
Flares
First aid kit
Fire extinguishers
Radio communication equipment
Battery torchesAnother person on board and capable of driving the vessel is advised.Ensure that the set of sea charts on board are up to date. Ensure that the journey is calculated with the weather in mind and enough fuel is allowed for operations.Informing friends or family that are onshore during your trip is highly recommended.Advise from local maritime authorities regarding safety equipment and procedures should be sought for the area in where the vessel is used. It is highly recommended that the aforementioned information is sought.Moving and Getting Underway
For the best performance and the maximum service life, shift the transmission in the following manner:
Fully engage the marine transmission selector lever in the desired direction of travel.
Wait for at least 3 seconds to allow the clutch to engage completely before increasing the rpm of the engine.
Gradually increase engine rpm.
Operate the marine transmission controls ONLY with the engine running. A rotating propeller shaft with an engaged clutch is not lubricated sufficiently when the engine is not running, and may be damaged.
Slow Vessel Mode
Slow vessel mode allows the engine speed to run at 550 rpm, which is below the programmable idle range of 600-800 rpm.
