Shear Capacity
The following table provides an overview of the profiles of steel that can be cut by the shear jaws. The profiles are made of Fe360 (ASTM 283C) steel.The dimensions of the profiles are the maximum dimension that can be safely cut. Consult your Cat dealer before you cut materials that are larger than the dimensions in the table.Note: The shear is meant for processing ferrous metals. Harder material or softer material can cause excessive wear to the work tool. Harder material or softer material can also damage the work tool. Consult your Cat dealer before you cut steel that has a rating that is higher than Fe510 (ASTM A572Gr50).

( 1 ) Before processing plate steel that is less than 2 mm (0.079 inch), make sure that the gap between the cutters and the gap between the guide blade and the jaw is less than 1 mm (0.039 inch). This excessive gap will cause jamming problems.
