COLD PLANER,
Information:
Installation Procedure
Prevent the machine from movement. Park the machine on a level surface. This procedure will require the use of a suitable lifting device or devices to position the parts safely.
Illustration 3 g03674971
Stick positioned for installation
Position the stick as shown.
Illustration 4 g03219688
Thumb placed upon the stick
Use a suitable lifting devise in order to lift the thumb group onto the stick. Refer to table ""Weight of Thumb Groups"".Note: Once the thumb group is on the stick, a lifting strap may be attached around the thumb cylinder. Route the strap through the opening in-between the boom and the stick. Use a hoist to slide the thumb group into the correct position on the stick for welding.
Illustration 5 g03674369
Top View of thumb mounting plate (M1) 114 2 mm (4.48 0.08 inch)
Place the thumb group in the center of the stick.
Place the thumb group to measurement (M1) from above the center line of the bucket pin bore.
Illustration 6 g03303598
Verify that the cylinder bracket assembly is flush to the stick. There should not be more than 2 mm (0.08 inch) between the bracket and the stick. If needed, grind or machine a groove in the bracket plate to have enough clearance for the factory weld on the stick. Do Not Grind The Factory Stick Weld.
Tack weld the mounting plate at four corners in order to test the installation position.
Illustration 7 g03223400
Install the connector lines onto the thumb group.
Test the operation of the thumb.Note: Check for interference between the teeth of the bucket and the teeth of the thumb. Adjust the mounting plate of the thumb group until the desired operation is achieved.
Position the stick by fully extending the stick cylinder.

Prepare the areas to be welded by removing all paint, oil, and debris.
Apply 8 mm (0.32 inch) fillet welds in order to secure the mounting plate to the stick.Note: The bracket must be welded on the backside of the mounting plate when the mounting plate is wider than the stick.Note: Do not weld across the ends of the mounting plate.
Prepare the welded areas for paint.
Apply a rust prevention coat primer.
Apply a finish coat of paint.
Install film (3) and identification plate (2) .
Set the hydraulic pressure of the auxiliary hydraulic circuit to a maximum pressure of 20684 kPa (3000 psi).Note: The bucket must be able to overpower the thumb.Note: Set flow to the auxiliary hydraulic circuit in order to maintain a cycle time of no quicker than 3 seconds to extend, and 2 seconds to retract the thumb cylinder.Weight of Thumb Groups
