Problem Checklist
Hydraulic System Problems
"The temperature of the hydraulic oil is too high."
"Unusual noises from the hydraulic pump, rough movements in the cylinder rods, and the hydraulic oil contains air bubbles."
"A pause occurs in the increase to full pressure in the circuits."
"The implement hydraulic oil gets into the power train oil system."
"One or more of the control levers moves when another control lever is operated."Problems with the Bulldozer and with the Ripper
"Implement cycle times are too slow."
"Too much cylinder drift exists in one of the hydraulic circuits."
"Implement cycle times are too fast."
"An excessive pause occurs at the ground line when the blade is lowered."Probable Causes for Hydraulic System Problems
The temperature of the hydraulic oil is too high.
Either the oil cooler core is plugged or air is not flowing over the oil cooler.
The setting for the crossover valve or for the main relief valve is too low or the pump cutoff pressure is set too high. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Main Relief Valve - Test". Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure and Flow Compensator Valve - Test".
An oil passage has a restriction.
The cooler bypass valve is stuck open.
The oil level is too low.
The setting for the margin spool in the pressure and flow compensator valve is too high. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure and Flow Compensator Valve - Test".
The charging valve is stuck in a shut position.
A control stem is out of position.Unusual noises from the hydraulic pump, rough movements in the cylinder rods, and the hydraulic oil contains air bubbles.
Oil aeration occurs because of a loose connection or because of a restriction in the oil lines on the inlet side of the pump.
The oil level is too low.
The cylinders and lines are not fully purged of air.
The hydraulic tank has porous welds or broken baffles.A pause occurs in the increase to full pressure in the circuits.
The hydraulic circuit for the signal oil contains air.
The setting for the margin spool in the pressure and flow compensator valve is too low. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure and Flow Compensator Valve - Adjust".
An orifice in the flow control valve has a restriction. The implement hydraulic oil gets into the power train oil system.
The pump seal leak into the flywheel housing is excessive.
Leakage through the motor seal into the bevel gear case is excessive. One or more of the control levers moves when another control lever is operated.
Interference occurs in the control linkage.
The plug is missing in the end of a control valve spool.
The drain holes in the end cover of the valve stack are misaligned. The drain holes do not intersect.Probable Causes for Problems with the Bulldozer and with the Ripper
Implement cycle times are too slow.
A control valve spool is out of position.
The setting for the margin spool in the pressure and flow compensator valve is too low. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Pressure and Flow Compensator Valve - Adjust".
The circuit for signal oil has internal leakage or internal blockage. Check the following causes for leakage or for blockage.
The shuttle valve
