Cutting Blades and Guide Blades on the Fixed Jaw
Open the jaws.
Lock the jaws in an open position. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Inspect the Cutting Edges and the Piercing Tip" for more information.
Inspect dowels (16). Replace the dowels if damaged.
Reuse the blades 5, 6, 7 and 8 by rotating to a new edge. Replace the blade if a new blade edge is not available.
Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to the dowel pockets of the fixed jaw and the blades.
Install the dowels (16) into the fixed jaw.
Install the blades 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Seat the blades in the pocket. Tighten the bolts 12, 13, 14 and 15 to approximately 68 N m (50 lb ft).
Remove the jaw locking device. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Inspect the Cutting Edges and the Piercing Tip" for more information.
Slowly close the moveable jaw until completely closed.
Ensure that there is no interference between the cutting blades of the fixed jaw and the cutting blades of the moveable jaw. If there is interference, the hub must be adjusted. Refer toOperation and Maintenance Manual, "Hub Nut - Check/Tighten" for the proper procedure.
Loosen the cutting blade bolts (12). Do not remove the bolts. Allow a minimum of three threads to remain engaged in the blades.
Position the cutting blades (5) of the fixed jaw flush against the cutting blades (4) of the moveable jaw.Note: Tap the heads of the bolts with a soft mallet to position the blades.
Do not position the blades by striking the bolts with a steel hammer. Striking the blades with a steel hammer may result in damage to the blade and the jaw.
Insert the proper quantity of shims. Measure the gap between the blade pocket and the cutting blades to determine the proper shim thickness.
Seat the blades in the pocket. Tighten bolts to approximately 68 N m (50 lb ft).
Measure the clearance between the cutting blades on the moveable jaw and the cutting blades on the fixed jaw. Clearance values of 0.3 mm (0.012 inch) to 1 mm (0.039 inch) are acceptable.
The maximum allowable shim thickness is 5 mm (0.197 inch). If the shim requirement is over 5 mm (0.197 inch), measure the cutting blade thickness. The minimum cutting blade thickness is 47 mm (1.85 inch). If the cutting blade thickness is within tolerance, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hub Nut - Check/Tighten" for additional information.
Slowly open the jaw. Observe the gap between the blades until the tip exits the lower jaw. The acceptable clearance at all points is from 0.3 mm (0.012 inch) to 1 mm (0.039 inch).
Tighten bolts (12) to the proper torque. Refer to table 4.
