OK - A high current diagnostic code (-6) became active. The harness wiring between the ECM and the compression brake solenoid is OK.Repair: The open circuit is in the windings of the solenoid. Replace the compression brake solenoid. Verify that the problem has been resolved.STOP
Not OK - The low current diagnostic code -5 remained active during the test. The ECM did not detect the short at the solenoid connector. The open circuit is in the harness under the valve cover between the valve cover connector and the compression brake solenoid.Repair: Repair the harness or replace the harness between the connector for the compression brake solenoid and the valve cover connector. Verify that the problem has been resolved.STOPTest Step 5. Create an Open Circuit at the Valve Cover Connector for the Suspect Compression Brake Solenoid
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the valve cover connector for the suspect compression brake solenoid.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
Access the diagnostic override under the "Diagnostics" menu. Note: Refer to Illustration 2 in order to locate the suspect solenoid. Determine the correct override to use.
Start the override for the compression brake.
Once Cat ET displays the status of the compression brake solenoid, stop the override.
Monitor
